Procedure Description

TREATMENT OF HEMORRHOIDS BY INFRA RED COAGULATOR

What To Expect

Infra-red coagulation consists of the application of a probe heated by infra-red light to the feeding vessels of the hemorrhoids. It is a painless and quite effective method FOR THE TREATMENT OF INTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS. Surgical hemorrhoidectomy has a reputation for being a painful procedure for a fairly benign disorder. Using this new technique, the blood flow to the hemorrhoids is blocked by applying Infra-Red-Ray. When these rays come in contact with the tissue, they are converted into heat and produce a temperature of about 100C. This is applied for fraction of seconds repetitively. At this temperature, the blood vessels supplying that particular tissue are charred or sealed off thus depriving the tissue of blood and causing its shrinkage. Besides Hemorrhoids various birthmarks like port wine stains, strawberry angiomas and hemangiomas as well as tattoo marks, warts and moles on the skin can be erased with Infra Red Coagulation. The treatment itself is completed within 5-10 minutes

Preprocedure

Clear your rectum of stool before the procedure. A laxative, enema, or other preparation may be administered to aid evacuation. During the anoscopy the IR "gun" is inserted through the anoscope. The Infra Red Rays are generated by a special halogen lamp and are then transmitted through a long tube.At the end of the tube there is a special polymer tip made of Teflon or Sapphire, which comes in contact with the tissue being coagulated. This tip does not adhere to the tissue and can be safely shifted to another part of the tissue.The amount of radiation can also be predetermined with the help of a timer which can be set as per requirement, so that the appropriate amount of tissue is coagulated minimizing the chances of an overdose or underdose.

RADIO-SURGERY FOR SKIN LESIONS

Radio-surgery uses Radio Waves for lesion removal

What To Expect

Radio surgery offers a cosmetic advantage over elliptical excision in the removal of benign superficial skin lesions. The procedure requires minimal time. Radio-surgery is an atraumatic method of cutting and coagulating soft tissues. No pressure is needed and the cells are vaporized in the path of the radiowaves causing them to split apart much like a hot wire through polystyrene.

Preprocedure

During the procedure, which takes about 30 seconds per lesion, I anesthetize each site with 1% Xylocaine Using a 30-gauge needle,which is an extremely thin needle. While holding the Surgitron handle like a pencil, I steady my hand by bracing the side of my hand and fifth finger against the patient's skin surface. I activate the attached wire loop electrode while holding it at a right angle above the patient's skin. When skillfully applied to the skin, the electrode removes the bulk of the lesion with the pure cutting current of the Surgitron. I apply firm traction around the lesion with my thumb and forefinger and avoid penetration below the skin surface. To decrease tissue drag, I moisten the site of the radiosurgery with a saline compress. Once the bulk of the lesion has been removed, I use light, continuous strokes, such as those used by an artist, to remove the remainder of the lesion. The surface of the lesion is abraded with a moistened gauze sponge to remove carbonized tissue.

Postprocedure

After the surgery, I advise the patient to apply Aquaphor or Bactroban for 10 days and resume normal activities. The wound will be red for several weeks and should gradually fade in color. If the lesion is not completely gone in 4-6 weeks, I perform a brief touch-up procedure. Approximately 2%-3% of my patients required touch-up procedures for complete removal of the lesion. This technique leaves a good cosmetic result.

Tattoo Removal

BYE BYE TATTOO Your tattoo can be removed or modified with 2-4 non-surgical, non-invasive treatments at an affordable price. Homemade tattoos generally have been applied deeper through the skin layers and require a few more treatments than professionally done tattoos. The time period between each treatment is approximately eight weeks which allows the skin to recover and heal smoothly. The treatment is no more painful than getting a tattoo. The cost depends on the type and size of tattoo that is to be removed. The site will be thoroughly cleaned to reduce the possibility of infection and then anesthetized before being treated with the Infrared Coagulator. Initially after treatment the area will be covered in tiny white blisters that will remain for up to one week. A scab will then begin to form on the ink and last for 2-4 weeks. During this time, as the scab becomes thicker, the ink is drawn up into the scab. Eventually the scab will fall away naturally. Picking at the scab can upset the ink removal process. Bactroban Antiseptic Cream or Bacitracin Cream is applied to the treated area until the scabbing process has finished. This cream keeps the area sterile and stops any infection from occurring. Without the application of the cream, there may be unpleasant results. It is advised to refrain from swimming, saunas, or playing sports until the scabbing has completely gone. Once all the scabbing has fallen off, a pinkish-red blemish will be present where the ink once was. By applying a vitamin E skin cream three times a day, the discoloration will fade away over a short period of time and the skin will be fully recovered. It is strongly advised the treated area of skin be kept out of direct sun as the harsh UV rays can cause scarring.
